Baden-Württemberg is the only region to be represented at EXPO 2021 in Dubai
As a staunch supporter, I am very proud that Baden-Württemberg is the only region in the world to be represented at the EXPO in Dubai from among 192 countries. After many political discussions and a state parliament investigation committee on the financing of the pavilion as well as a postponement due to the Covid-19 crisis, things will finally start this year. The EXPO will take place from October 1, 2021 to April 31, 2022, and I am very much looking forward to visiting and supporting my region in October.
EXPO Dubai is a great opportunity for Baden-Württemberg, because 25 million visitors from all over the world are expected. The motto of the EXPO is “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”. The aim is to “promote creativity, innovation and cooperation between countries, cultures and institutions and to inspire visitors to think in new directions in order to develop common solutions for a better future”.
The central themes of the EXPO are mobility and sustainability. These topics fit perfectly with Baden-Württemberg, because the region is known for leading automobile manufacturers, automotive suppliers, mechanical engineers and medical technology companies and has earned the reputation of a partner who combines precision and quality with innovation.
Baden-Württemberg has one of the strongest economies in Europe and with participation in the EXPO this strength is only further expanded and offers the opportunity to share its technological skills with the rest of the world. That is why I am a staunch supporter of Baden-Württemberg’s participation in the EXPO. After the worst recession since the financial and economic crisis in 2009 with a shrinkage of 4.9% in 2020, I believe that the Baden-Württemberg House in Dubai will improve the prospects. Germany is particularly dependent on industrial exports and suffered from the instability caused by Brexit and the trade dispute between the US and China even before the Covid-19 outbreak. EXPO Dubai is therefore the opportunity that brings new opportunities with it, with the leading role for Baden-Württemberg, which in these economically difficult times can be the driving force to create prosperity. Not only for Baden-Württemberg and Germany, but also for Europe, as this opens up new business opportunities in new markets around the world.
I am sure that the innovative strength of our region will astonish the 25 million visitors to the EXPO and that our presence in Dubai will further secure the leading, global role in the field of research and science.
